True Digital Transformation for 21st Century Bureaucracies Speaker: Tom Cochran, Chief Digital Strategist & VP, Public Sector, Acquia Talk Description: Changing any bureaucracy, let alone one over two hundred years old, can be a daunting task. What are the three key ingredients to put you in the path towards successful transformation efforts? What are the signs of heading towards failure? Bureaucracies are not immutable machines destined to remain status quo. With leadership and properly managed expectations, big changes are possible. Speaker Bio: Tom Cochran is the Chief Digital Strategist and VP of Public Sector at Acquia, the leading provider of cloud-based, digital experience management solutions. He joined the company after spending over four years in the Obama administration as a presidential appointee and digital leader. Most recently, he held a Deputy Assistant Secretary role at the U.S. Department of State running their global digital public diplomacy platforms. He also worked at the White House running their digital technology and led the team that built the ‘We the People’ petitions platform. In the private sector, he spent a couple years as the CTO for Atlantic Media (i.e., The Atlantic, Quartz, GovExec, National Journal brands) and he was the first person hired by Blue State Digital (Obama campaign's digital team), spending a few years engineering the early applications that would grow into the robust digital platform which helped President Obama raise $1.2 billion online in two election cycles. Early in his career, he was the lead engineer and inventor on a content and feedback management system, which was awarded a U.S. patent. Tom has a degree in economics from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He lives in Washington, DC with his wife and two children.
